  • 3 oranges, juiced
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 1/2 cup of chicken broth

For serving:

  • 12 corn tortillas
  • Cilantro
  • Lime wedges
  • Salsa
  • Avocado
  • Queso fresco

Instructions

Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine pork shoulder with 2 tbsp of olive oil, garlic powder, dried oregano, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and salt and pepper. Mix to combine.

Step 2: Heat remaining 2 tbsp of olive oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add diced onion and cook for 5-7 minutes until softened and lightly browned.

Step 3: Add seasoned pork shoulder to the skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and crispy.

Step 4: Add freshly-squeezed orange and lime juices, and chicken broth to the skillet. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and cover with a lid. Cook for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally and adding more chicken broth if needed. The pork should be tender and pull apart easily with a fork.

Step 5: Use a slotted spoon to transfer pork to a cutting board. Shred pork with two forks and return to pan, stirring to coat with the remaining juices. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes to crisp up the edges on the pork.

Step 6: Serve carne asada hot with warmed tortillas, cilantro, lime wedges, salsa, avocado, and queso fresco.
